Sam, better known as Old Man Sam,[1][2] is a shepherd[3] who regularly delivers wares to Phantomhive Manor, alongside his grandson.
Character Outline[]
Sam is a grizzled, elderly man who dresses plainly and works diligently. An affable individual, he converses with others easily and warmly.[4]
History[]
Around 1883, Sam expressed his wish that Vincent Phantomhive should be the one to name his granddaughter who would be due in a month. Vicar Rathbone informed Vincent about Sam's wish.[3]

In January 1886, Sam and his grandson were driving through a forest. When they passed by Phantomhive Manor, they were surprised to see not a ruin, but a fully-restored manor.[5]
Around the time Baldroy was recently recruited as a servant at Phantomhive Manor, Sam arrived to deliver an abundance of milk, cheese, and milk. Mey-Rin enlisted Finnian's help in carrying the food.[6]

Sam and Sam's grandson deliver goods to Sebastian Michaelis and Baldroy.
Sometime later, Sam and his grandson delivered this week's food to Phantomhive Manor. Sebastian Michaelis inquired how things were in the village, and Sam informed him that Charlie's Inn recently got five guests that had arrived in a fine carriage. His grandson added that Habbie from the liquor store told him about a stranger that came to the store to ask what kind of liquor the lord of the estate preferred. The stranger was surprised to hear that the lord does not drink. Sam, his grandson, and Sebastian laughed over this fact. Then, Sebastian paid Sam, and Sam and his grandson drove away.[7]
Eventually, Sam and his grandson returned with that week's food. Sebastian, Baldroy, Finnian, and Mey-Rin assisted them in unloading the cart. Sebastian asked Sam about the village's affairs, and the latter merrily informed of a calf's birth at his farm; when he mentioned that he hoped it would grow up to produce plenty of milk, his grandson noted the abundant grass and fertile soil, expressing gratitude to Ciel. Baldroy said that he looked forward to the milk, to the grandson's delight. Afterward, Sam and his grandson parted ways with the Phantomhive servants.[8]

Public School Arc[]
The day Ciel Phantomhive and Sebastian Michaelis return from London, Sam's fence breaks and all his sheep run away and end up at Phantomhive Manor. The Phantomhive servants try to capture them, and when Ciel arrives at the manor, he orders Sebastian to collect the sheep.[9]
Blue Cult Arc[]
On October 31, 1889, Sam attends the Phantomhive earldom's Halloween celebration with his family. He thanks Ciel for repairing the village roads as they can now safely transport milk with their donkeys. He calls him "Young Master" for which a woman scolds him, saying that he has to address Ciel as "Earl Phantomhive."[10]
