Character Outline[]

Plot[]

Blue Revenge Arc[]

In December 1889, when Doll leads Finnian and Snake to the stables, Ginny refuses to take her riding lesson; at a previous session, the horse dropped her and she hurt her foot. When Doll and Susan fail to convince Ginny to take the class, Theodore steps in and effortlessly helps Ginny bond with the horse and help her overcome her fear of riding by telling her that horses can sense their riders' feelings; if she is unafraid of and gentle to a horse, it will be unafraid of and gentle to her too.

Afterward, Ginny waves Theodore goodbye and heads to her lesson.[5] Later that day, it is announced that tomorrow will be Ginny's "fledging day."[6]

In the evening, everyone gathers in the dining hall for Ginny's celebratory dinner. Various students, i.a. Nick, congratulate Ginny for having reached "fledging day" and want to see the mistletoe she received as a departing gift; the plant symbolizes immortality and signifies the orphanage's wish that the child will have an eternal bond with their new family. Finnian remarks that mistletoes are also parasitic plants that can even kill their host trees.

When Mabel, the oldest Corgi student, arrives, she tearfully hugs Ginny as she cannot believe they will have to say goodbye forever so soon. Ginny thanks Mabel for teaching her so much about gymnastics and riding horses and promises to put out a newspapers advertisement to find her when she becomes wealthy. Her kind words only make Mabel cry harder, and Theodore points out to Mabel that Ginny will be sad if she cries so much.[7]

Afterward, Susan comes, separates Ginny and Mabel, and formally starts the celebration.[8]

The next day, the chief and Mabel cut Ginny's hair short during her "fledging day" ceremony. Mabel cries and apologizes, but replies tells that there is no reason to apologize, and that she is very happy. Then, the chief gives Ginny her "fledging garment" and says that, hopefully, the "aptitude" she honed at the orphanage will will make her helpful to the world. Ginny thanks her.

When Ginny is driven away, she waves her "siblings" goodbye and tells them to take care.[9] That night, her body is returned to the orphanage and brought to the stable as no student is ever fostered out.[10] Finnian, Snake, and the elder students later find her in the facility under the stable; Ginny is already dead by then, having been killed and placed in a jar.[2]
