Countess Cloudia Phantomhive (クローディア·ファントムハイヴ, Kurōdia Fantomuhaivu) is the late mother of Vincent Phantomhive and Francis Midford, as well as the grandmother of Ciel, Edward, and Elizabeth.
History
At some point, Undertaker added a charm with a lock of her hair to his chain of mourning lockets.[2]
Circus Arc
Following Ciel Phantomhive and Sebastian Michaelis burning Baron Kelvin's manor and killing Doll, Undertaker observes the burning of the manor from afar while playing with charms. On one charm, there is a date and a name engraved: "13 July 1866, Cloudia P."
He says that he has warned Ciel to hold every soul dear, and states that Ciel will understand the importance of things that cannot be recovered once it is too late.[3]
Luxury Liner Arc
Before the Campania begins to sink and tilt heavily, Grelle Sutcliff begins fighting with Undertaker. Water begins flooding in and Undertaker decides it's time for him to leave. Sebastian Michaelis and Grelle then attack him simultaneously.
He dodges both but drops his chain of lockets, which Ciel Phantomhive grabs. He decides to leave his "treasure" with Ciel and tells him to keep it safe. Undertaker then says farewell and slices the ship.[4]
Trivia
- According to various colorizations of her lock of hair in Undertaker's locket, Cloudia has blue hair like her son and grandson .[5][6][7][8]
Etymology
- "Cloudia" is a variant of "Claudia" which is the feminine form of "Claudius,"[9] a Roman family name likely derived from the Latin claudus ("lame, crippled").[10]
Out of Universe
- Cloudia died on a Friday the 13th (July 13, 1866),[11] and her son was born on one (June 13, 1851).[12]
