The Butler, Psychosomatic Treatment is Chapter 172 of the Kuroshitsuji manga.
Summary[]
Ronald introduces himself as "Doctor Knox" and says he will be Baldroy's physician and looks forward to working together so that Baldroy will be able to return to society. Then, he turns to Lau and asks him who he is. Lau tells him that he is "Chang," the "Burgh" family's private physician who used oriental medicine, i.a., acupuncture and qigong, to treat Baldroy after his deployments left a toll on his body and mind.
Ada informs Lau that the Athena Sanatorium does not allow doctors from the outside and tells him to leave. Lau tries to convince Ada otherwise, but quickly admits that he can understand her sentiment and leaves. Right when he does, Baldroy feigns a breakdown: He begs Lau to stay, repeatedly states that he cannot be alone, and begins to ramble about his deployment in Arizona—about the fear he felt, the cries he heard, his helplessness, his comrade Terry who died after getting bitten by a snake. Ronald attempts to calm him down, but fails. Only when Lau returns, reassures Baldroy that he is in Great Britain and not alone alone, and hugs him, Baldroy calms down.
Ronald remarks that Baldroy's condition seems to be rather serious, and Ada decides to allow Lau to stay as it will be the best for Baldroy because not only the patient's body has to be clean, but their heart as well. Ronald says that was sweet of her and that he wishes that she would be nice to him as well, but Ada sprays him before he can continue talking.
Ada then tells Lau about her decision. Lau thanks her and praises Baldroy's acting skills as he had been unable to think of any way to save the situation himself.
Afterward, Ada and Ronald show Baldroy and Lau to the ward where Baldroy will be staying. Baldroy comments on the ward's cleanliness, and Ada informs him that the sanatorium was built and is run according to Florence Nightingale's—the nurse who helped in the Crimean War, reformed the hygiene in hospitals—design, and revolutionized nursing: large windows to let in air and light, heating medical equipment, a communication system between the patients and nurses, etc. Ronald adds that, because of all this, Baldroy does not have to worry about anything: After all, everyone at the Athena Sanatorium is able to return to society, even those meant to die.
While they are talking, a little girl runs to them and tells Ada that she has exchanged the patients' hot water bottles. The girl then turns her attention to Baldroy, asks him whether he is the new patient, and introduces herself as "Layla." Baldroy returns her greeting, but Lau scrutinizes Layla. However, when she inquires if anything is wrong or on her face, Lau says "no."
