Plot[]
Blue Revenge Arc[]
In late 1889, Annie gets employed as a maid at Heathfield Manor. Sometime later, her new employer, Chris Heathfield, returns,[2] and Annie and the other new maids, Mey-Rin, Ran-Mao, and Miranda, greet him and are personally welcomed by him.[3]
Afterward, Annie and the maids discuss Heathfield's looks and habits[4] before Abbie arrives and tells them to go back to work.[5] Abbie also reminds the new maids that they always have to look impeccable in front of Heathfield. Her words prompt Annie, Miranda, Mey-Rin, and Ran-Mao to inspect their collars and cuffs, and Annie finds a note from Heathfield in her cuff which reads "If you so wish, come to the rear room on the third floor of the west wing at 10 p.m. tonight. Chris Heathfield."[6]
Annie is overjoyed upon finding the note, and, that night, she heads to the west wing and sleeps with Heathfield.[7]
Shortly afterward, Annie supposedly leaves Heathfield Manor.[8] In reality, however, Annie never left: She has been put into a comatose state and gets her blood drawn for the Aurora Society in a secret basement in the manor.[9]
Sometime later, Mey-Rin and Ran-Mao dismantle the blood-collecting operation in the basement. After Annie and the other maids wake up, Jane tells them to head upstairs, since Ran-Mao, the “savage beast,” may hurt them. To the maids' horror, Ran-Mao has laid waste to the basement. They rush upstairs.[10]
Abbie, the house steward, and the other maids, much to their consternation, are awakened by a rumble caused by the allegedly dismissed maids emerging from the basement in droves.[11]
Annie informs a fellow maid that she and the others were kept asleep in the basement, which compels the other maids to call Scotland Yard.[12] When a confused Chris surfaces and asks why his bride candidates are present, the aggrieved maids rebuke and beat him.[13] Later, Scotland Yard takes Chris into custody.[14]
