Overview

His Butler, Colluding (その執事、談合, Sono Shitsuji, Dangō) is the fiftieth episode of the Kuroshitsuji anime, and the fourth episode of Kuroshitsuji: Public School Arc.

Summary[]

In the chapel, Clayton asks Ciel to be his fag, and Ciel accepts. McMillan and many more Sapphire Owl students are waiting for Ciel outside, and as soon as Ciel leaves the chapel, they swarm around him to congratulate him for his "accomplishment" of becoming Clayton's fag. The group then walks around the school grounds, and when Soma spots them, he happily waves to Ciel and expresses his delight to see that the "morose" Ciel finally gained some friends.

404 Tea Party cut-off

As a mere prefect's fag's fag, Ciel still cannot attend the Midnight Tea Party.

In the evening, Ciel meets up with Sebastian in his office. Ciel is thoroughly exhausted because of the commotion around his person; he feels like an opera singer. Sebastian praises him for not only taking revenge on Maurice but also being selected as Clayton's fag. Ciel, however, is only annoyed by his words as he has, after all, not achieved anything regarding his actual mission, the investigation into Derrick's disappearance, yet. He notes that because Queen Victoria only requested to learn the "reason" for Derrick's vanishing, she must be certain that something nefarious must be going on at Weston College. The school's rules hamper Ciel's investigation though; he must speak to the headmaster but his hands are bound as he is merely a prefect's fag's fag and, as such, still not invited to the headmaster's annual Midnight Tea Party. Ciel and Sebastian then decide to question Gregory next as he is the prefect of Derrick's apparent current house.

404 Herman's pose

Herman's hilarious pose.

The next day, Ciel joins the P4 and their fags at Swan Gazebo; because of Maurice's actions, Joanne has since replaced him as Edgar's fag. There, Herman poses oddly with one leg raised straight into the air because Gregory said he wanted to draw him like that.

404 Traditional cricket

Every June 4th, Weston College holds a cricket tournament.

While Herman suffers, the others talk about June 4th, and because Ciel does not know what they mean, the P4 and their fags explain it to him: Every year on June 4th, Weston College's annual cricket tournament is held. It is a grand event in which all four houses compete against each other; the Queen even watches the victory parade. The event includes two parties, one before and one after the tournament, for which outsiders are allowed into the school. Edgar adds that women are invited too and that "escorting a beautiful woman" to the festivities is a way to "show off your status"; he himself never did that though. Ciel then glimpses at Gregory's drawing and sees that he sketched Edgar standing alone at a party and not Herman who is still holding his ridiculous pose. When the topic shifts to sisters, particularly Lawrence's seven sisters, Gregory draws all Bluewer siblings instead of Herman.

404 Upset Edward

Edward is upset at Cheslock as his "angel sister" would never do something like that.

Hearing about Edward's sister, Edgar remembers that she is Ciel's fiancée. He and Cheslock then tease Ciel about Elizabeth and inquire how "far" he went with her, much to Ciel's discomfort, and Edward's fury. All that talk about women annoys Herman and he stands up to scold everyone, reminding them that the tournament is about sports, not parties. Gregory throws a piece of bread at Herman for breaking his pose and "ruining his masterpiece" although he never drew Herman at all; his latest sketch is a labyrinth.

404 Prefects' reactions

The startled P4.

Ciel cannot believe how weird Gregory is, but because he has to, he tries to converse with him. He mentions that it must be difficult to compete against friends, a notion Joanne agrees with but Herman opposes, and that he has a friend at Purple House, Derrick Arden. Upon hearing his name, the P4 freeze, and Gregory breaks the piece of charcoal with which he was drawing. Ciel thinks the P4's reaction is highly suspicious, especially compared to their fags' who remained calm instead. He probes the P4 further, wanting to know more about Derrick. Edgar says Derrick used to be his fag before he transferred to Violet Wolf, and each prefect then gives another skill as Derrick's "specialty." They also state that Derrick's transfer was "the headmaster's decision"; because of that, they never bothered to dwell on any reason.

Ciel is sure that the P4 are hiding something and decides to "lay low" for now, so as not to raise their suspicions. Unknown to him, he already did.

404 Ciel and Edward

Edward asks Ciel why he is here.

Later, Ciel approaches Edward while he is practicing cricket to ask him about Derrick. Edward does not know much though except that other students transferred with Derrick from Red to Purple House; in each case, it was the headmaster's decision and, thus, not to be questioned. Further, Ciel's inquiries on Derrick make Edward wonder about his reason for enrolling in Weston College, and Edward asks Ciel if he is here on Watchdog duty. Ciel only tells him that it is not his business.

After he leaves Edward, Ciel goes to class where he asks McMillan about Derrick and the other transfers. McMillan knows their names—Gleason, Hardy, Thewlis, and Isaac—and that they transferred to Purple House about half a year ago but not the reason for the dorm change as it was "the headmaster's decision." When McMillan wants to talk about the P4, Ciel leaves the conversation and goes around the school to question students about Derrick. Again, everyone assigns a different talent to Derrick, and no one knows anything about his transfer beyond the fact that the headmaster decided it. Ciel then sits down on a bench to ponder of his findings; there, he is joined by Soma. However, Ciel is deep in thought and ignores him; he only speaks to call all students "nothing but caged sheep."

404 Sebastian and Johann

Sebastian and Johann talk about Derrick.

Meanwhile, Gregory is watching Ciel from a window, and Sebastian asks Johann about Derrick. Despite being the vice headmaster, Johann does not know more than the students, however. While they talk, Johann falls down a set of stairs, and when Sebastian helps him up, he becomes wary of Johann.

During a later class, Sebastian sneakily hands Ciel a piece of paper to tell him to meet him at the library tonight. When it is time, Ciel heads to the library and is promptly hidden by Sebastian as he noticed that Lawrence has been following Ciel for a while. Only after Lawrence has left, does Sebastian let Ciel out. They then exchange their discoveries and learn that both staff and students know next to nothing and only parrot that the dorm changes were "the headmaster's decision."

404 Ciel and Sebastian watch the fire

Ciel and Sebastian watch the fire.

Frustrated, Ciel comes up with another plan. He and Sebastian head to Violet Wolf and catapult a lantern into its dormitory. Ciel has studied the school's rules by now and knows that rule 84 states that "in case of an alarm such as a fire in the school or one of the dormitories, all students should rapidly seek refuge in the school gardens and have prefects take a roll-call." Smiling, Ciel and Sebastian expectantly watch Purple House catch fire and wait for all students to come out, hoping to see Derrick as well as Hardy, Gleason, Isaac, and Thewlis.
