The Butler, Meandering (その執事、蛇行, Sono Shitsuji, Dakō) is Chapter 210 of the Kuroshitsuji manga.
Summary[]
While Finnian flees with the elder students, he recalls the day he escaped from another secret underground facility, back when he was still "Test Subject Zwölf." At that time, he only focused on getting out; now, Finnian runs with a heart heavy with guilt that he had to leave Snake behind. The sadness that bombards him clouds his thoughts, and he wishes to be Test Subject Zwölf again.
When they reach a fork in the road, Theodore guides the group to the right. He explains that he memorized the layout and the number of steps they took since they entered the tunnels; from that, he can tell where they are roughly. If they take the right path, they should end up outside the F.O.L. Orphanage grounds. Theodore's determination and leadership remind Finnian of Ciel. Wiping away his tears, Finnian finds new strength to go on as the least he can do now is survive and inform Ciel and Sebastian about his findings.
Finnian and the elder students eventually reach a dead end; the only way to go any farther is to swim through the drainage system. Theodore assures them that this is the right way and that the drainage system is likely connected to a nearby river. After all, there is a windmill close by too that powers a drainage pump. Though Mabel and Oliver are reluctant to take Theodore's word, Artie is ready to take this gamble if it gives him the chance not to end up as "nutrients for some parasitic plant." His words give Mabel the push to agree as well because her determination to save her siblings outweighs her fear.
Artie, Mabel, and Theodore go into the water. Oliver, however, refuses to go through the drainage system because he cannot swim. Just when he apologizes that he cannot come with them, four staff members arrive; some carry guns. Oliver says that they should just leave him behind, but when the staff opens fire, Finnian grabs him and jumps with him into the water.
