The Butler, Testing is Chapter 193 of the Kuroshitsuji manga.
Summary[]
Snake and Finnian enter F.O.L. Orphanage and are lead by the two maids upstairs. One of them asks Snake what his name is; he does not immediately answer as he is taken aback by the orphanage's strange familiarity—it is as if he had seen this place before. Only when the maid asks again, Snake answers that his name is Keats and that he does not know his surname.
Finnian and Snake are brought to a sitting room where they get their blood drawn for a blood test. Afterward, while one maid takes away the blood samples for testing, the other one inquires whether they can read. Snake says he can read simple texts while Finnian recites his character setup again, saying that day labourers must know how to read so that they are not cheated out of their wages. The maid then hands them the tests. Snake braces himself for potentially difficult questions—after all, the orphanage is known to provide a "unique" education—but the questions are only strange, not really difficult. For example, the first question asks you to sort four animals—rabbit, weasel, dog, cat—in order of their cuteness, and the second question wants you to order four cakes—strawberry, chocolate, cheese, carrot—according to their deliciousness.
Snake asks the maid whether these questions have a right answer, and the maid replies that while there are no right answers, there are "appropriate" ones to welcome them into the family. Then, the other maid returns with the results of the blood test and the written test is stopped: While Finnian and Snake are in excellent health, their blood test showed inappropriate results; as they do not have the right "aptitude" to join the "family," they are asked to leave. Snake and Finnian protest and request to be able to work here at least, but the maid says she absolutely cannot let them stay because of the blood test results.
Snake persists though and says he will even do hard work or take care of the children. In this moment, Doll enters the room and tells him that he should learn to take care of his pet first before asking to be put in charge of children. She also reminds Snake that she told him not to let his snakes roam around freely. When Snake sees Doll, he is shocked at first before he jumps to embrace her, and they both fall to the ground. In tears, he asks if it is really her, and Doll is glad to see that he is really Snake.
Finnian is confused by the situation and wants to know how they know each other. Snake explains that Doll was his comrade at the Noah's Ark Circus, and Finnian realizes he means the circus troupe that attacked Phantomhive Manor to kidnap Ciel. He then introduces himself to Doll who remarks that, coincidentally, "Finnian" was also the name of a newcomer at their circus before she reciprocates the introduction.
